Noise Table is made by Structure Sound, LLC. This page says what data Noise Table collects, why, and what you can do about it. The short version: most of Noise Table runs entirely on your device, we collect only what an online feature you choose needs, and we never sell your data or use it for advertising.

What we collect, and why

Your email address, and passkeys if you add them

To create your account and sign you in. We email you a one-time sign-in link; a passkey lets your device sign in without one.

When: Only if you create an account. Everything else in Noise Table works without one.

How long we keep it: Until you ask us to delete your account.

A record of each device you are signed in on

So you stay signed in, and so you can see and revoke your signed-in devices.

When: When you sign in.

How long we keep it: Until the session expires or you sign out or revoke it.

Patches you publish, and packs you get from the marketplace

Publishing is how you share a patch or keep it in your cloud library; the pack record is what lets you download what you have access to.

When: Only when you choose to publish, or get a pack. Private patches are visible only to you.

How long we keep it: Until you delete them or your account.

Edit-failure reports from the desktop app

When the editor fails to apply an edit, a report lets us reproduce and fix the bug. It contains the patch you were editing (or a reduced version of it), the kind of failure, your platform and the app version.

When: Only if you opt in. The app asks first; if you decline, nothing is sent and reports stay on your computer.

How long we keep it: As long as we need it to fix the bug. The patch itself is never shown publicly; the public issues page lists only the report's title, kind, platform, version and date.

Network requests to our servers

Your device has to connect to noisetable.com to load the website, download instruments and sample packs, or sign in. Like any server, ours sees your IP address while answering. Our own request logs record only which page or endpoint was asked for and whether it worked — not your email address, and not sign-in tokens.

When: When you visit the site or use an online feature (the marketplace, your cloud library, signing in, sending a report).

How long we keep it: We keep server logs only as long as we need them to keep the service running.

Contact details on copyright (DMCA) notices and counter-notices

If someone sends us a copyright takedown notice, we keep it as our record of the notice-and-takedown process under 17 U.S.C. § 512. Each notice holds the complainant's name, email, postal address and phone, with the rest of what they submitted (the work, the material, their typed signature). If an uploader answers with a counter-notice, we record their name, address, email and phone, and forward the counter-notice to the complainant as § 512(g)(2)(B) requires.

When: Only if you send a notice or counter-notice. Nothing is collected from anyone else.

How long we keep it: These records are not erased when an account is deleted: they are a record of a legal process, not account data, and they are not tied to an account. The code sets no expiry for them.

Noise Table has no analytics, advertising or crash-reporting SDKs, no tracking cookies, and we do not sell or share your data for advertising.

What stays on your device

  • Your patches and settings. Saved on your device. In the browser app they are kept only in memory unless you turn on "Save in this browser", which keeps them in your browser's local storage for this site until you turn it off.
  • Microphone. On iPhone and iPad, only when you start recording or use live input — sound is processed on the device and is never uploaded. The Android app does not request microphone access.
  • MIDI and other music devices. Keyboards and controllers you plug in or pair are read on the device to play and control sound.
  • Your own Noise Table devices. When the desktop app sets up or talks to a Noise Table appliance you own, it connects to it directly, and any Wi-Fi details you enter go to that appliance, not to us.
  • Bluetooth (Android). Declared in the Android manifest for pairing with a Noise Table appliance over Bluetooth Low Energy, but requested only at the moment you turn that feature on — never at app launch. Bluetooth scanning never reads or derives your location; the location permission Android requires for BLE scanning on versions before Android 12 is not used for positioning, and no location data leaves the device. As of this build the Android app does not yet include the BLE pairing feature itself (see source: node-control/society-ble are desktop-only), so nothing yet triggers these requests.

Cookies and local storage

This website sets no cookies, and has no tracking or analytics of any kind. It loads nothing from other websites — even its fonts are served from noisetable.com. What it keeps in your browser depends on the part of the site you are on:

  • Everything public — The front page, the engine and download pages, the marketplace, credits and this page store nothing at all in your browser. The light/dark switch follows your system setting, and a choice you make with it lasts only for the page you made it on.
  • Your account page — Keeps only what signing in needs:
    • nt.session (sessionStorage) — Keeps you signed in to your account page while the tab is open. It is deleted when you close the tab.
    • nt.last_user_id (localStorage) — Remembers which account last signed in on this browser, so you can sign in again with a passkey. It is an account ID, not your email address. Written only when you sign in on the account page; the "Not you?" button there deletes it.
  • The browser app (/app) — Keeps your work in memory by default, so it is gone when you close the tab. If you turn on "Save in this browser" (the save button in the app's header), it is kept in your browser's local storage until you turn that off, which deletes it:
    • noise_table_notebook (localStorage) — The patch you are editing in the browser app (/app). Saved only after you turn on "Save in this browser"; turning it off deletes it.
    • noise_table_container (localStorage) — The browser app's settings (theme, grid, zoom, audio). Saved only after you turn on "Save in this browser"; turning it off deletes it.
    • noise_table_storage_consent (localStorage) — Records that you turned on "Save in this browser" in /app, so it stays on next visit. Written only when you turn it on; deleted when you turn it off.

The build of this website checks every page against these rules, so a page that stores something not listed here cannot be published.

Third parties

We use a few services to run Noise Table. They handle data only to provide that service to us:

  • Cloudflare — DNS and content delivery for noisetable.com and cdn.noisetable.com, where downloads and published files are served from.
  • Mailgun — Sends the sign-in emails. It receives your email address and the email's contents.
  • Google Play and Apple's App Store — If you install Noise Table from a store, the store handles the download and any purchase under its own privacy policy.

Your rights, and deleting your data

Wherever you live, you can ask us to show you the data we hold about you, correct it, export it, or delete it — including deleting your account and everything you have published. You can change your answer about edit-failure reports at any time: it is the report_edit_failures setting in the desktop app’s settings file (container.koda). We will not treat you differently for asking. If you are in the EU, UK or California, these are your rights under the GDPR, UK GDPR and CCPA; you can also complain to your local data protection authority.

To delete your account yourself, use noisetable.com/account/delete, or Settings, Account, Delete account in any Noise Table app. It erases your sign-in, passkeys, signed-in devices, purchases and private patches at once. Patches and packs you published are unlisted and no longer carry your name, and licences other people already hold for your packs stay valid. Our private backups of the account service keep a copy of deleted data for up to 90 days, after which it is removed as the backups rotate.

For any other request, contact us (below). We will answer within 30 days. Data on your device is yours to delete: uninstall the app, or clear this site’s data in your browser.

Children

Noise Table is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.
