Step sequencers, toggle grids, note clips and a timeline are chips, so a pattern is wired into a patch like any other source.
Runs on:

Sequencers come in several shapes: a step sequencer and a toggle grid for loops, note clips and a clip sequencer for phrases, and a timeline for parts that run from start to end.
Each one sends notes and triggers down wires, so swapping a grid for a timeline is a change of wiring, not a rewrite of the patch.
